Why should I take your course?
Island Safety Training offers instruction with certified Heart and Stroke Foundation instructors. Your course will be facilitated by two Advanced Care Paramedics with over 50 years of combined experience. Both instructors are registered to practice in Alberta and B.C.
Who should take the BLS and the Heartsaver CPR/AED course?
It is recommended that if you are a first responder, fire fighter, ski patroller, lifeguard, or the general public responding to emergency situations, that you take one of these Heart and Stroke Foundation courses offered by Island Safety Training.
What are the course prerequisites?
For the BLS-HCP course and the Heartsaver CPR/AED course, a student manual specific to each course must be purchased and studied prior to the date of the course. Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) student manuals can be ordered from the HSF site.
What course do I require in order to take or renew my ACLS/PALS course?
BLS-HCP by the Heart and Stroke Foundation is a pre-requisite for all ACLS/PALS courses.
What is the difference between the BLS course and the Heartsaver CPR/AED course?
The Heartsaver CPR/AED is: 1 rescuer CPR/AED for adults, children and infants. Choking for adults, children and infants.
BLS-HCP (C) is: 1 and 2 rescuer CPR/AED for adults, children, and infants. Bag-mask techniques for adults, children, and infants. Rescue breathing for adults, children, and infants. Relief of choking for adults, children, and infants. CPR with an advanced airway.
I am a healthcare provider for VIHA. What course do I need for my professional registration?
Physicians, nurses, paramedics and Allied Healthcare Providers (RT, OT, PT) will require the BLS-HCP (C) course for their professional registration.
Will Island Safety Training travel to our location to teach a course?
Yes, our business license permits Island Safety Training to instruct in any location north of Duncan, west to Tofino, and north island to Port Hardy. Does Island Safety Training cancel courses?
Island Safety Training never cancels a course. If there are less than 4 students booked for a class, then Island Safety Training will hold the class at 911 Wally's Way, Parksville, BC.
What is Island Safety Training’s course cancellation policy?
Requests to cancel a course after online registration has been confirmed must be made in writing by email at least one week (7 days) prior to the course date. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be retained if a course is cancelled within the 7 days prior to the course date.
Can Island Safety Training arrange a special class just for you?
Yes we can. We have arranged private courses, for the same price, for health care professionals requiring their registration immediately, or for those who are working and cannot make it on the dates that our courses are offered on our website.
